Title Sequences!
Hey! Welcome back.
The use of title sequences are nothing new. Having different clips edited together at the beginning of the movie is the best way to subtly introduce the audience to what they are about to experience. To be honest, I personally skip any intro sequences that don't raise my arm hairs, or sends a shiver down my spine. I enjoy title sequences that makes me excited to watch the film/show. Here are my 5 favorite title sequences and how they contribute to the over all show/film.
Scott Pilgrim vs The World
I could go on and on about how wonderful this movie is and how much detail was put in. At the beginning of the movie we are introduced to Knives Chau, who has just got into a relationship with our protagonist Scott Pilgrim. She comes over to the house to introduce herself to Scott's bandmates. The title sequence begins with her watching the band perform one of their songs. The weird, stretched out living room accompanied with animation that is timed with the beat shows how lively this movie will be. The weird camera angle and movement shows how this movie will have an unusual plot and aesthetic.
Gravity Falls
Despite being a cartoon show made aimed for teens, a lot of thought was put into the plot, including the title sequence. Throughout the title sequence, we are quickly introduced to the main characters and their personalities. For example, Dipper is shown as curious but easy frightened, whereas his sister, Mabel, is energetic and upbeat. The sequence also paints a picture on how strange the town of Gravity Falls truly is, shows images of strange creatures and events, and how they are a major aspect of the town. Not only does the sequence explains the initial plot of the show, but it tells the characters' relationship to the town. An example of this would be Stan and how, despite being very aware of the potential dangers he is faced, he still sees a form of profit. As you continue watching the show, there are instances where the title sequences will reflect the episodes current events, which adds more to the strange atmosphere.
Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse
Without a doubt, Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse is a prime example of how different types of details helps tell a story. The movie is based on the Marvel comics that deal with the multiverse. This helps influence the visual aesthetic of the movie. Throughout the title sequence, we see aspects of that are identifiable to comics, like speech bubbles, colors accompanied with dots, sharp and flat lines, bright and vibrant colors, and explosives. Community
The title sequence for the show Community is simple yet fits into the shows plot and aesthetic. The sitcom follows a study group that get into abnormal shenanigans. The title sequence contains a paper fortune teller where each flap reveals the actors' names and a drawing that fits the character's personality. Even if you have never watched from the piolet episode, you are introduced to the characters and how they each play a part within the friend group.
WandaVision
don't forget to address font, font color, etc.
