Movie Opener Brainstorming & Research
Helloooo! Welcome back.
I have been provided with some videos that were done by past AICE Media students so I can be inspired and help me brainstorm new ideas for my own video. Here are my observations of each video.
Rise: The video begins with someone leaving their car and collecting their equipment. While this happens, credits appear which leads to the title "RISE". After that it shows the same guy playing soccer but being observed by another individual. It shows a montage of, what seems to be the protagonist, to play soccer by himself/practicing. At the end, the same guy packs up and begins to leave but sees the guy who was observing him. It ends with a close up shot on each guy's face.
Dear Lover: The video begins with relaxed music accompanied with a shot of a lake. Similar to "RISE", it displays credits near the bottom of the video. The main character appears in the scene, capturing her feelings. A voiceover could be heard throughout the video, furthers the audience's understanding of the character's emotion.
Dare to Thrill: This video also begins with credits as it showcases a group of friends searching a building. The group finds a pair of keys and goes into a car. At this point, the video shows the car driving with close up and mid shots showing the speed of the car. The upbeat music is played throughout the video, adding to the "thrill" and excitement. I personally like this video due to its shots of the car "speeding" down the highway.
Always Watching: The video begins with what appears to be a therapy session. The music plays a little later in the video, creating an eerie and creepy mood for the audience. There is also lowkey lighting, adding on to the creep factor of the video. The blood red font tells the audience that there is something sinister going on. This video is overall dark and ominous.
The Blue Boar: The video starts two women walking in a forest/garden. Throughout the video, there are lots of extreme close up shots and close up shots but creates a calming mood. Based on the character's outfits, it appears it takes place at an older era, which personally I find interesting.
White Coat: Another project I found myself really enjoying, With the low-key lighting, the close up shots on the characters and objects, and the mise-en-scene really captures the story they are wanting to tell. I like the attention to detail and thinking how much time and planning it must have taken to make the video.
Stalker: Out of all the examples, this was my least favorite. The idea of a stalker will always be interesting but the way it is portrayed makes it seem uneventful or even eerie. However it helps me think of ways to help give that vibe, like the use of high angles or extreme close up shots to show terror in her eyes. Maybe even using dark/low-key lighting while she was in her room.

Nostalgia: I also really like this example because of its idea. The idea showing art to describe the setting and shots of the protagonist to tell the audience a bit about her character. The bright/natural lighting also gives the character a youthful feeling. The transition to her younger self could have been different in my opinion. Something more seamless. But overall I like this example.
I had watched all these videos with my fellow members, which we discussed aspects that we like and want to incorporate in our own video. As I mentioned before, we want to go with a dark theme. So I want to focus on a darker lighting. We are also getting inspired by the 'Breakfast Club' and its characters and how vastly different they are. So in our video, we want to have the main characters different from each other so I want to include probs that are significant to the character, like how White Coat had used various props to tell the audience that their protagonist is a scientist.
I know I have been saying this in every post, by I am excited to create this video and excited to show it to you guys!
That's all for now!
